Sanford's top slugger has earned league-wide recognition.
Georgia native Troy Carpenter has been named NECBL Player of the Week. The shortstop has been outstanding at the plate, with 10 hits in the seven games the Mainers played this week. Many of those hits were timely, with runners on base, as he drove in nine runs in that span.
His performance yesterday in Sanford's doubleheader against North Adams was his best yet. The University of Maine product racked up three doubles between the two games, one of those a bases-clearing knock that gave Sanford a 3-0 lead in game two. Carpenter has five doubles in his last four games.
"We just have fun out here, that's really all there is to it," Carpenter said after yesterday's win. When describing his approach at the plate, he said it's all about "getting on the heaters and not missing them."
His success is a big reason for Sanford's 7-3 start. The Mainers can keep it rolling on Tuesday when they visit the Ocean State Waves. First pitch from Rhode Island is slated for 6:30 p.m.
